== Data Source Summary ==
The International Road Federation (IRF) maintains a database known as World Road Statistics (WRS), comprising over 200 series for over 200 countries. The database is a tremendous resource for infrastructure data, specifically transportation network data. WRS contains information on total road length, but also contains filters to view paved vs. unpaved roads, the kinds of traffic (commercial vs. private), the vehicles using the roadway, accidents and the consequences of them, and more.

To IFs, the IRF provides an important window into the transportation infrastructure of a country. A robust, paved road network makes it easier for a country's exporters to access ports, and for its citizens to find jobs if they are scarce locally. IFs uses three preprocessors from this data source: RoadsPavedKm, the total length of paved roads in a country measured in kilometers; RoadsTotalNetwork, the total length of roads paved or unpaved; and RoadsPaved%, the proportion of the total network which is paved.

Greg.Gillen: Page creation. Walkthrough of ILO pull

The ILOSTAT database can be accessed via direct link or through the ILO organization's main page. Instructions here begin from the main page, [https://www.ilo.org/ ilo.org].

=== 1. ILO Main page ===
Access the ILO's main page at [https://www.ilo.org/ ilo.org]. From the top bar, select 'Statistics and Databases'.
[[File:ILO main.png|center|frameless|837x837px]]

=== 2. Statistics Page ===
Scroll down until ILOSTAT is an available option and select it. ILOSTAT is also available directly at [https://ilostat.ilo.org/ ilostat.ilo.org].
[[File:ILO stat.png|center|frameless|522x522px]]

=== 3. ILOSTAT main page ===
From the ILOSTAT main page, there are two basic ways to access the data. One is via the topics, and the second via the data tab in the top bar.
[[File:ILOSTAT topics.png|center|frameless|625x625px]]

=== 4. Via Topics ===
From a selected topics page, select 'data catalogue' or scroll down to the catalog. Excel downloads of all indicators will be available here. Many indicators will have multiple series to choose from, differing by frequency. Be sure to pay attention to whether the series is annual, quarterly, or monthly.
[[File:ILO data catalog.png|center|frameless|585x585px]]

=== 5. Via Data Tab ===
The data tab has an indicator catalog which automatically searches all indicators by subject, frequency, and classification. Classification is the filter on the subject: in the example 'Informal employment by sex and age', sex and age are classifications. The 'Frequency' filter should also be used. When a filter is added, no additional keystroke or search button is needed, the catalog will update as you filter.

== Summary ==
The International Labour Organization (ILO) is an agency of the United Nations concerned with global labor rights and standards. The organization's statistics branch, ILOSTAT, aggregates and processes data from national labor statistics agencies.The Pardee center uses ILOSTAT for statistics on employment, wages, the informal economy, and other topics related to labor. For detailed instructions on pulling data from ILOSTAT, visit the [[Pulling Data From ILO]] Wiki page.

'''World Bank: Loayza Informal Labor Forecasts'''

The informal labor forecast series uses the “Toolkit for Informality Scenario Analysis”, created by Norman Loayza, to code information on forecasts for the formal and modern informal labor sectors for 96 countries, and covers the years 2010, 2020 and 2030. The projections are based on the model described in Loayza (2016) “Informality in the Process of Development and Growth,” Policy Research Working Paper WPS7858, World Bank. In the tool, the labor force is allocated into three sectors: the formal sector, the modern informal sector, and a rudimentary informal sector. The aim of the tool is to allow users to generate estimates of the size and evolution of informal labor, using historical data and exogenous projections from the ILO and World Bank, as well as estimates of key parameters from the literature.

IFs has drawn primarily on their forecasts for the formal labor and modern informal labor sector.

This section explains the methodology that is to be followed when importing Informal Labor forecast data from Loayza into IFs. It also describes certain problems that a user might face in interpreting and understanding the data.

'''Source: '''Informal labor data is published by The World Bank. The data is available at this website, [https://data.worldbank.org/data-catalog/informality-scenario-analysis https://data.worldbank.org/data-catalog/informality-scenario-analysis]

'''Types of data: '''Following categories of data need to be imported into IFs:

1.'''Baseline Formal Labor Forecast-'''Labor productivity grows at the same rate as labor costs in the formal labor sector

2.'''Reformist Formal Labor Forecast-'''Labor productivity grows at a faster rate than labor costs in the formal labor sector

3.'''Baseline Informal Labor Forecast-''' Labor productivity grows at the same rate as labor costs in the informal labor sector

4.'''Reformist Informal Labor Forecast-''' Labor productivity grows at a faster rate than labor costs in the informal labor sector

These can be found within the Toolkit spreadsheet, on the user-friendly Menu tab. The options we are concerned with are: '''Basic Scenario Selected ('''Baseline/Reformist) and '''Range for Background Data '''(earliest to most recent).

== Summary ==
For detailed instructions on pulling data from ILOSTAT, visit the [[Pulling Data From ILO]] Wiki page.'''ILO Data series'''

The conversion of GDP at Purchasing Power Parity from one currency year to another requires some data manipulation and data from multiple sources. Sources and processes are outlined below.

== Data sources ==

GDP and Population data are supplied by https://tntcat.iiasa.ac.at/SspDb/dsd?Action=htmlpage&page=60. The format for GDP is in billions of 2005 US Dollars.

To convert from 2005 to 2011 dollars, two additional pieces of data must be brought, both available from the World Bank. The first is the GDP deflator, available at https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.DEFL.KD.ZG

The second is the PPP conversion factor, available at https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/PA.NUS.PPP

Both of the World Bank statistics must be pulled in the initial and target currency year, in this case 2005 and 2011.
[[File:Databank PPP.png|thumb|Only the years 2005 and 2011 are needed. The GDP deflator pull will look very similar.]]

== Data Manipulation ==
The GDP Deflator is a measure of inflation; the conversion of GDP from 2005 to 2011 requires 2005 dollars to be divided by the deflator in 2005 and multiplied by the deflator in 2011. Conversely, the GDP must be multiplied by the 2005 PPP conversion factor and divided by the 2011 conversion factor. Thus, the formula for conversion to 2011 dollars is: <math>\frac{2005$ * PPP2005 * Deflator2011}{PPP2011 * Deflator2005}</math>

For per capita GDP at PPP calculations, this must be divided by population.

The database is compiled, in most cases, from publicly available cross-country data series, e.g., World Development Indicators, UNESCO Institute for Education database on education, FAO database on agricultural production, Correlates of War data on conflicts etc. IFs data team add new series to the database and update the existing ones on a regular basis.
