United Nations Statistics Division: UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) Education Database
The United Nations Statistics Division, UIS Education Database is the most comprehensive education databse in the world, containing data from more than 200 countries and territories. The UIS has the mandate to monitor progress towards Education for All and education-related Millennium Development Goals. The statistics, which are updated twice a year, are used by diverse partners, including governments, donor agencies and other UN organizations. In particular, the UIS is the primary education data source for the Education for All Global Monitoring Report, the World Development Indicators and the Human Development Report Data is collected through the UIS annual education survey, which covers all education levels and a range of issues such as enrolment rate, gender parity, teachers, and financing.
The IFs system uses data from the UIS Education Database on a wide variety of topics relating to education. The following sections provide instructions for pulling data from the UIS Education Database for IFs pre-processor series in the Education submodule.
See http://stats.uis.unesco.org/unesco/TableViewer/document.aspx?ReportId=143&IF_Language=eng
Pulling Data on Enrollment in Vocational Programmes:
The pre-processor series in IFs relating to enrollment in vocational programmes are:

- EdSecUpperVoc%AllFemale
- EdSecUpperVoc%AllTotal
- EdSecLowerVoc%AllMale
- EdSecLowerVoc%Allfemale
- EdSecLowerVoc%AllTotal
Data for these series was obtained from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (http://data.uis.unesco.org/). Specifically, they are found in the following drop down menu sequence: Education>Participation>Distribution of Enrollment>Distribution of Enrollment by Programme Orientation.
Because these particular series contain confusing wording, the full names in UIS of each fo the six series are provided below.
- Percentage of male students in lower secondary education enrolled in vocational programmes, male (%)
- Percentage of female students in lower secondary education enrolled in vocational programmes, female (%)
- Percentage of students in lower secondary education enrolled in vocational programmes, both sexes (%)
- Percentage of male students in upper secondary education enrolled in vocational programmes, male (%)
- Percentage of female students in upper secondary education enrolled in vocational programmes, female (%)
- Percentage of students in upper secondary education enrolled in vocational programmes, both sexes (%)
Pulling Data on Educational Expenditure:

Items of Note:
- As of May 2016, there was no data for 2015 for the LowerVoc series, only 1999-2014. However, there was 2015 data for the UpperVoc series.
- Country Concordance: UNESCO countries.
- As of March 2017, UIS utilizes "Cabo Verde" instead of "Cape Verde." The UNESCO Country Concordance utilizes "Cape Verde." You thus must replace "Cabo Verde" with "Cape Verde" in UIS data prior to importing into IFs.
