Planning Commission, Government of India
The Ministry of Planning[1] collects data regarding the national five-year plans of India. All the data available from this website are published in PDF format. This website is becoming out of date, and the Planning Commission is moving their data to other websites, such as NITI Aayog. In the future this data source will not be accessible.

NITI Aayog
The National Insitution of Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, is a recent incarnation of the Planning Commission of India. The focus of NITI Aayog's work is transforming India's states into "stronger" states and monitoring progress in the Sustainable Development Goals. This resource has state-level data regarding the economy, government finance, demography, health, households, and education. In addition to this data, there are departments within NITI Aayong that produce their own sector-specific data. The most noteworthy is the India Energy[2] initiative which has energy data for states and its own forecasting model[3] that runs through 2047.

Census of India
The Census of India[4] is conducted every ten years, the most recent census was in 2011. This data was used to calculate the ratio of population that was attributed to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the Population series by using district-level population data from the 2011 census. Each district that was formerly a part of Andhra Pradesh that became a part of Telangana when the state was created in 2014, was summed to get a population estimate. This estimate was then used to find a population ratio of Telangana relative to the former Andhra Pradesh (before bifurcation). This ratio was then applied to the current population series to estimate population for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh accurately.
Migration was also found in the census, but there is only migration data available from the 2001 census. The 2011 census migration data tables have not been published yet.

Human Development Reports of India
Human Development Reports are written by the United Nations Development Program and frequently have sub-regional data on education, GNI or GDP, and life expectancy. Some reports have highlighted specific states, rather than the whole country. The data is in PDF format in the appendices of these reports. There has not been a report that has been published on India in recent years and the series from Human Development Reports are dated.

State Finances Report; Reserve Bank of India
The State Finances Reports are produced by the Ministry of Finance Department of Economic Affairs Economic Division [5]. These are annual reports that show the general health of state finances and they are produced annually. The fiscal year in India runs from April through March, and thus each report has annual data with a two years cited on it (eg. 2014-2015). The earlier year is used in all cases in the data import. For instance if the report was 2014-2015, the data was imported with the year 2014.

Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on State Finances
These reports are produced for each state annually and show the state's general financial health as well as a rigorous checking of balances. This organization's goal is to reduce corruption and inform decision makers on the fiscal health of a state. These reports are published for each state every year in PDF format, which makes pulling this data time consuming and difficult. However, the data within these reports are seldom found sub-regionally and are important economic variables.

National Horticulture Board of India
The National Horticulture Board[6] of India publishes national and subnational data on agricultural production. All the data is in PDFs that is directly from the National Horticulture Board, but there is some of their data available on the Data.gov.in website in Excel format.
